Bomber Herky Jerky
“The Bomber Herky Jerky was specifically designed to catch pike in Europe,” said Bomber General Manager Bruce Stanton. “This style of bait has become increasingly popular for European fishermen, particularly in Scandinavia. Pike is a highly sought-after gamefish in Sweden and Finland.”
Bomber utilized several top guides in Sweden to fine-tune the finished product, which is constructed out of super-tough polycarbonate plastic. The majority of plastic fishing lures in the world are made out of the weaker ABS plastics.
“When pursuing a large species of fish such as a muskie you want a lure that’s extremely strong and durable,” Stanton said. “Our pull tests on the hook hangers show the Herky Jerky will remain intact up to 300-plus-pounds of force hook hanger to hook hanger.”
An additional advantage of polycarbonate plastic is that it is clearer than ABS, which allows designers to use decoration patterns that include flash inserts in addition to hot stamp and painted colors.
Finally, Bomber wanted that kicker that makes the lure stand head and shoulders over the competition. Bomber designer Bruce Brown is credited with creating a rattle chamber and positioning it in the perfect spot to give the Herky Jerky that extra advantage. Because of the chamber and internal weighting system, the Herky Jerky, a slow-sinking lure, rocks back-and-forth as it slowly descends, causing the rattles to knock and emit a sound even when the angler is doing absolutely nothing.
